NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND TOOLS FOR THE VALORIZATION AND DIVULGATION OF
CULTURAL HERITAGE: THE AUGMENTED MUSEUM
The theme of technologies, is definitely affecting everything. It also strongly entered the world of cultural heritage, developing a totally new world of visiting museums, archaeological venues and so on and so forth.
Nevertheless, it is yet problematic as against major innovations, there is no such groundbreaking use.
In my dissertation, I tried to develop the topic of new technologies (from interactive surfaces to virtual reality; from holograms to immersive systems, but also QR codes and augmented reality) applied to exhibitions displays for their spread and improvement.
At first, I tested reactions of the average visitor; the integration of potential technologies inside the Museum system and also the fundamental subject of “edutainment”.
After that, I carried out a wide-ranging research visiting several museums and participating to meetings and conferences. My aim was to go through technologies, test them and finally form my personal critic opinion.
I have tested and studied most of the available technologies, focussing my research on augmented reality.
Following a cooperation with the staff of Palazzo Madama, Museum of Ancient Art in Turin, I had the chance to work at the Museum display, designing all rooms and creating anew - or simply enforcing - different kind of technologies.
