Masked Marvel

In June 1929, Blues musician Charley Patton recorded his first songs for the Paramount record company. 3 months later the recordings were released through an advertising campaign asking listeners to guess the identity of the singer who they had dubbed “The Masked Marvel”.  The record went on to reportedly sell more than 5000 copies.

Charley Patton is generally regarded as the defining voice of Delta Blues, his body of work documenting the intensely troubled times in which he lived as both artist and mystic.
