Project Brief

Deadbeat is an online music community focused on EDM, Drum & Bass, House, Dubstep, etc. type of music.
Our close competitors for your reference are Monstercat and 99Lives.

We'd like our logo to
focus around the dead + beat idea. Dead could be a skull or zombie and the beat (music)
featuring either headphones or music equalizer styles.

For the style, we prefer something colorful like 99Lives album art. Something when someone sees the
logo and just wants to listen to some awesome music!

For Logo Design, I choose Zombie and Equalizer style, because I have seen many skulls and headphones styles.

Now, I do know about Music Equalizer styles, but I did some research about Zombie. (A Zombie is a fictional undead being created through the reanimation of a human corpse. Zombies are most commonly found in horror and fantasy genre works. The term comes from Haitian folklore, where a zombie is a dead body reanimated through various methods, most commonly magic)

I needed something which is common in all Zombies and after research, I found that the walking style is common in all of them. A Zombie walks in a irregular style. They walk out of step, they do not have a pattern in their walking like a normal human does, steps are uneven and awkward. They are simply inconsistent.

But Music does have consistency and repetition.

I need to incorporate both Inconsistency and Consistency in my logo, I began with exploring typefaces which are inconsistent in their formation like shapes and have irregularity but do look consistent overall and I found the typeface 'Bahiana Regular' for the logo. For the icon, I extracted the straight shapes from the word 'DEADBEAT' written in the typeface 'Bahiana Regular' and represented them as Equalizer styles in a geometric circle.

For color, I choose green with 2 neutral colors black and white. Green because it represents Life, Refreshment, Energy and that's what music does too, it gives energy and refreshment to the listener.
