Playful Stool Designed for Both Children and Adults

USER, PROBLEM, AND THE IDEA

“Feel Like A Child” is designed for both children and adults. The idea is to solve a problem when a user have a children visitor and he needs something to prevent the children from getting bored. Also, it is for the grownups with a childlike heart.
The goal of design is to make a piece of furniture that’s friendly and safe for children but not too stupid for adults, so it is a playful stool that can be put in any modern interior spaces.
MATERIALS AND PROCESS

This playful stool’s top and bottom are made with maple. They are exactly mirrored. In between, there is plywood upholstered with blue linen.
Table router, table saw, jigsaw, and orbital sander are majorly used in this project. Everything is made by hand since I didn’t have time to sign up for CNC cutting in my school and I believe that human hands are always better than machines in terms of making fillets or curves. However, if I had time, I’d use CNC anyway and hand sand it afterwards.
FUNCTION AND DETAILS

I believe that a product’s own shape should tell its own use. People can sit on it either vertical or horizontal. The ways to use it is unlimited but wisely conducted by designs on the details, for example, the lowered area on both maple pieces.
The lowered parts on the top and bottom make it easier to grab the bottom, and the holes are also easy to grab and are very playful.
It is a stool, rocking chair, and a place to place your feet when you’re sitting on another piece of furniture.
1:1 cardboard model, process, and parts before the final assembly.
Great thanks to our wonderful professors Kevin Walz and Matte Nyberg!
