Twin--An exploration of similarity

TWIN: An Exploration of Similarity
TWIN is an explorative information design project. It talks about the subtle relationship between similar things from different perspectives by visual languages. What it reveals is the most disturbing and most uncertain identity issues everyone will face.

The idea grew up from my experience being an identical twin.
For things that look the same, people always conflate them to each other and they keep scanning and comparing their sameness and differences. The external judgment challenges the core and boundary of identity. For example, the identical twins’ double identities at the same time, the celebrities and their roles, and the fuzzy boundaries between humans and AI after thirty years…
With a consistent visual system and “similarity” as concept, I designed books, posters and a website to explore four different sections. It talks about the subtle relationship between similar things from the perspectives of biology, computer science, humanity and visual arts. What it reveals is the most disturbing and most uncertain identity issues everyone will face.
A-Visual System
This visual system is based on keyword "similar , twin, copy" , which links four different sections. Rules on layouts are set to constrain different visual styles and applications, which create a visual consistency.

It depicts a predictable and unknown future: the more advanced technology is, the closer AI is to humans and the more ambiguous our identity will be.
The posters are made inspired from prediction of human evolution in the future by Ray Kurzweil.

A survey website as one part of my four projects investigating similarity topics such as imitation, real and fake, copies, etc. by asking the visitors to make a personal judgement by Q&A.

Focusing on the theme of "almost the same", I carefully selected related works of art, including fine art, illustration, photography, etc. These visuals from all over the world are curated and arranged as if they were at a small museum. They are endowed with meanings that go beyond each of the works.
