Submission for the 2018 RSA Awards Moving Pictures Brief
I have been sketching and designing for as long as I can remember. For this RSA competition, I was very much inspired by Tiffany’s audio lecture and wanted to create an animation that would bring it to a wider audience. I was inspired by the Coen Brothers’ clarity of message techniques and their use of direct sound and image.
In this project most important point was synchronization. Visuals have to go with sound at the same time and they need to be in synch and the movement as smooth as possible. While I was making this video I focused on smooth transitions. To be able to maintain these transitions I constructed each scene with three independent layers. Every scene starts with the background layer. Then according to their hierarchical importance, the foreground layers begin to appear.
I have always enjoyed using the less is more approach. In my animation by using stylized images, I represented the text in a direct way with as little visual manipulation as possible, being loyal to the author.
