How to grow your own Scoby for making Kombucha
The Following is the receipe I follow when growing a Scoby
You will need
- A litre of Water
- 3 Black Tea Bags
- 1/3 of a Cup of White Sugar
- A Bottle of Raw Unpasterised Kombucha i.e. The Starter Culture
- A Sterilised Glass Container with a Wide Mouth
- Cheese Cloth, i.e. a Breathable Cloth
- Elastic band or String
- A Pot (A litre or more in size for brewing the tea)
- A Stove (For boiling water)
- 3 Black Tea Bags
- 1/3 of a Cup of White Sugar
- A Bottle of Raw Unpasterised Kombucha i.e. The Starter Culture
- A Sterilised Glass Container with a Wide Mouth
- Cheese Cloth, i.e. a Breathable Cloth
- Elastic band or String
- A Pot (A litre or more in size for brewing the tea)
- A Stove (For boiling water)
How to Grow Your Own Scoby.
- Boil a litre of water in a pot
- Once the water is boiled turn off the stove
- Now that the water is just boiled add 3 black tea bags to your pot
- Leave the tea bags to sit for 15 minutes before removing and disposing of them
- Now add 1/3 a cup of white sugar into the litre of tea (The sugar will be eatten by the Scoby)
- Wait for the tea to cool down to about room temperature, this can take quite a while
- Once the solution has cooled down add your litre of tea and sugar solution to your sterilised glass container
- Add your starter culture, the bottle of unpasterised kombucha, to your mix in the glass container
- Place your breathable cloth over the mouth of the container and tie it in place
- Leave the mix in a dark enviroment keeping the batch between or 20 to 25 degress celsius or 68-78 degrees Farenheit
- A scoby will usually take from 3 to 4 weeks to form
