La Conciencia de la Mestiza - Gloria Anzaldúa
La conciencia de la mestiza: Towards a New Consciousness, by Gloria Anzaldúa from her book Borderlines: La Frontera, is about mestiza identity, (womxn of mixed race, cultures or language) and mestiza consciousness, which is about being open to all the intersections of identity and a process of synthesizing and creating peace with the different, sometimes opposing parts of identity instead of allowing them to live in conflict.
This concept of synthesis informed the printed piece because there are different components of the text separated into various papers that do not hold any meaning alone: they must be together in order to be read, and understood. The envelope holding all the pieces of paper represents the mestiza being a vessel for the synthesized parts of identity.
