Language can influence the way we think. In the movie Arrival, this assumption is expanded to maxima – people who understand the alien’s language can see the future. With the new technique, integrating the movement into the letters is possible. So I’m wondering if we let the movement become a part of a language, how our perception will be changed. In this project, I’m exploring the possibilities of the movement in letters with Processing.
I put all 26 letters in 3 categories: curve set (letters with curve stroke: P, O, Q, etc), diagonal set (letters with diagonal stroke: A, V, K, etc), joint set (letters with only straight stroke: T, H, E, etc). In the curve set, circles in the letter only rotate; in the diagonal set, circles in the letter move linearly. I did all the letter design in Auto CAD because in this way I could get precise data to code in Processing. Finally I created this X26 Generator interface to let users to create their own composition.
