“Behind the Circus” rappresenta un lavoro di fotoreportage e video sensibilizzanti, volto ad analizzare il retroscena del mondo circense.
La domanda di partenza è: cosa accade una volta che cala il sipario e la grandiosità dello spettacolo lascia spazio alla quotidianità degli animali e delle loro condizioni di vita? Per rispondere a tale quesito si è realizzato un excursus sulle condizioni passate e attuali degli animali all’interno delle strutture circensi, anche alla luce dell’esponenziale attenzione ai diritti degli animali.
Il presente lavoro costituisce un movimento ed intreccio di prospettive differenti legate, da un lato, alla necessità di salvaguardare i diritti degli animali e la loro dignità; dall’altro, alla protezione del circo tradizionale, della sua dimensione ludica e degli addetti ai lavori.
Il progetto pone il suo focus di attenzione in modo dialettico, tra il polo della dimensione animalista e l’estremo degli addestratori circensi. Il mantenimento di un movimento oscillatorio si propone di mantenere aperta tale tensione, inducendo il lettore ad una riflessione che tenga in considerazione entrambe le prospettive, riflessione che rispetti la complessità del fenomeno circense.

"Behind the Circus" is a work of photoreportage and sensitizing video, aimed at analyzing the background of the circus world.
The question of departure is: what happens once the curtain falls and the grandeur of the show leaves room for the daily life of the animals and their living conditions? To answer this question an excursus was made on the past and current conditions of the animals within the circus structures, also in light of the exponential attention to animal rights.
The present work constitutes a movement and interweaving of different perspectives linked, on the one hand, to the need to safeguard the rights of animals and their dignity; on the other hand, to the protection of the traditional circus, of its playful dimension and of the insiders.
The photo report focuses its attention dialectically, between the pole of the animalist dimension and the extreme of the circus trainers. The maintenance of an oscillatory movement aims to keep this tension open, inducing the reader to reflect on both perspectives, a reflection that respects the complexity of the circus phenomenon.
