The Pirl was born out of our frustrations with chargers. Most were poorly designed, died quickly and missed key features we wanted. So we decided to build our own from scratch.

Unlike plastic chargers, the Pirl is made from aluminum and FR4. It gives it the look and feel of a more substantive object than most chargers. Something that doesn't look alien on more natural furniture, while still fitting in with modern devices.

We used numerous techniques when iterating on our prototypes -- 3D printing, laser-cutting, milling, etching, silk-screening, and several types of metal surface treatments.
We designed it to last, both mechanically and electrically. We also wanted to see how fast it charged our devices, so we designed an integrated watt-meter into the Pirl.
During the different design stages we leaned heavily on visualization. By the time we we done, we constructed the entire exterior and interior of the Pirl, including all of its electronic components.
