Rebranding Mt. Washington

REBRANDING MT. WASHINGTON

Mount Washington is a historic neighborhood located on the east side of Cincinnati, Ohio. It was laid out in 1846 and received its city rights in 1867. It's public square features a large grocery store and many small businesses, all organized around a large, distinctive water tower. This tower was the inspiration for Mt. Washington's first branded logo and compliments the 1940s and 1950s-style architecture that marked the largest growth of the Mt. Washington community during the Atomic Era in the United States.

The Mt. Washington Community Council was formed in 1925. It's mission is to educate all MW residents of the actions of the City of Cincinnati that impact MW, inform the City’s governing agencies of the views and opinions of the residents and to empower residents to enhance the quality of life in Mt. Washington. The MWCC also representative Mt. Washington at Cincinnati City Hall. Residents, property owners and business owners can turn to the MWCC for advice and support in dealing with zoning, land use, traffic, safety, beautification, crime prevention, recreation and many other issues affecting our community.

In 2015, I was commissioned by the MWCC to execute a new logo. This logo would be used initially as their official mark for print and digital application, but would also have the potential future use as a replacement for the long-standing Mt. Washington community logo. Council members had come to the opinion that the current logo focused to heavily on the water tower, and not the community of Mt. Washington as a whole, which included much more than just the business district and tower located at the top of the hill.
