Design Statement
Casual Racism, Chinese Privilege, Yellow Supremacy, are sensitive issues revolving around the topic of race in Singapore. There is a similarity between these issues which I believe point to ignorance.

Yellow Supremacy is my reaction to the topic of Chinese Privilege in Singapore. Through research and survey, it stood out to me that majority of my audience knew of the term Chinese Privilege, however they were oblivious to real-life instances of Chinese Privilege occurring to minority races in Singapore, thus are not able to relate well to the issue.

The aim of Yellow Supremacy is firstly to make the issue more apparent to Singaporean youths by bringing up real-life examples of Chinese Privilege and stirring up empathy within them. The posters depicts scenarios which literally put a Chinese Singaporean into the shoes of the minority. They are questionable scenarios which would make a Chinese think twice if it actually happened to someone of their race. The poster then leads to a website where they would find out that the scenarios depicted in the posters are real life accounts of Singaporeans who have been affected by Chinese Privilege and also answer controversial questions on this topic. I hope these would provoke healthy debates and conversations between Singaporeans about Chinese Privilege and organically change our mindsets.
