Typographic Poster - Romeo & Juliet
A custom lettering/typographic poster for a local production of Romeo & Juliet. Layered with various levels of type, all taken directly from Shakespeare's orginal play. Describing details about the content, location, characters, and other prominent elements from the classic manuscrpit. Romeo & Juliet is a timeless play that has had many adaptations over the years, but rarely strays from the main storyline, values, and overarching concepts.
With this particular version, getting back to the original roots of the story was key, so I did not use any photography or imagery, exclusively type and color. Utilizing verses from the play itself, as well as quotes from the charaters themselves provides more intrigue for the viewer to guess how this particular adaptation would be achieved. Being a play about the act of passion, I placed the type treatments on a deep red, reflecting both the apparent love and blood that is spilt throughout the entire storyline. With all these various elements coinciding with the other, the true goal of maintaining a classic idea with a modern twist is a perfect blend of new and old.
