We had a day on set where we filmed al the video reference we needed for the scenes where the girl is animated.
Then we used this footage as guidelines in Adobe Photoshop to cel animate the girl.

The brushes are from the Ultimate Megapack from Kyle's brushes. The different textures made the look very rough and a bit collage-esq. That way each frame became a little composition itself which we loved.
The fact that parts of these animations were transparent, but the image still strong enough to hold itself against the backgrounds, made it also fragile and isolated in a way which fitted the lyrics and the feeling of the song well.
