Inside the Oyster Festival
Writing Women into History

Pearl Gibbs
The project was completed whilst at University, where the brief denoted that’s
we pick an amazing woman that has been forgotten in the history books &
celebrate her achievements, bringing her fantastic life to the forefront.

For this brief I chose to celebrate indigenous activist Pearl Gibbs, who throughout
history made an unforgettable impact on Indigenous rights & affairs. Pearl strove
to empower young indigenous to fight for their rights & be proud of their culture
no matter what the main stream media/critics said.
To celebrate her crucial impact & bring her name to the main stage, I wanted to
create a concept festival which would have a set of deliverables to brand the event.
The Festival went by the name of Inside the Oyster, which pitched to be local to
the Sydney region, focusing on the ongoing impact Pearl Gibbs & how her drive for
justice can empower indigenous creatives to celebrate their culture & put their
talent on the main stage.

The festival celebrates young creative people, encouraging them to get on the main
stage & be proud of their talent & culture. The festival includes young creatives
who hold talent in the areas of music, art, dance, spoken word etc. Having these
sort of performers attracts a young, accepting crowd who are more progressive &
excited to attend events of this caliber.
The branding of the project focused on standing out from the crowd, done through
strategic choices of imagery, colour, type & form. I kept the colour scheme simplistic
but a statement using the a monochrome use of feminine maroone & a statement
red. Having these two colours meant printing was simplisticand easy to mass produce
for this type of event.
The final deliverables include an event booklet, tickets, wristbands, passes & three event posters
