Senior Thesis Project

Have you ever experienced something that you tried to explain to someone else and thought to yourself, I wish I recorded that? That is exactly what I did. Over the years, BFA students hear many stories about the capstone course called “Senior Studio.” Senior Studio is a 6 credit roller coaster ridewhere you develop a thesis project during the last two final semesters. Students go through a rigourous process that includes writing and submitting a proposal, research and content development, creating a scheduled outline, department presentations, and planning and executing an installation. Art majors often find it difficult to articulate to their friends and families about the process we go through when developing our projects. That one reason alone is what fueled me to decide to take a risk and create a documentary film about Senior Studio.

As I observed my peers while they started to research and develop their ideas, I became inspired by the process they were beginning to go through. I boldly made the decision to completely change my project to a documentary. The process of senior studio has never been documented in this nature before and I felt it was time for someone to finally do it.

In my documentary film, I’m sharing with you all a behind the scenes perspective of the Senior Studio course. You will be following five students cas they create diverse projects and experience what the capstone process is all about. You will see their trials and errors, their successes and triumphs as they move along to finishing their last project before graduation.
