this time with the door open. My plan was to paint on a board at the back, within the frame, but this didn't end up happening. Instead a photograph has been
inserted, using Photoshop.

I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free
my project was about the Hostile Environment, which is a political policy used to deter immigrants, but in my view it is a disgrace.
I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free is a song by Nina Simone.

my animation (these are screen shots) showed the feet at the top of the screen marching in a pattern based on the razor wire which tops the fences at Dungavel Immigrant Removal Centre.
the political policies are a nightmare, but I wanted to give my animation a happy ending, and used a photograph of a knight in shining armour (Robert The Bruce, from the battlefield at Bannockburn) to give us some hope.
Foam at Greenbank Garden is in this photograph. I used it to show a sense of victory, triumph, celebration.
putting the feet on a photograph of razor wire; the photograph layer was then deleted leaving only the feet.
The feet represent material poverty, and innocence; if you've got nothing you've got nothing to hide. Putting them walking showed a journey, and how it isn't simple or straightforward, how sometimes progress means going backwards and starting again, looping around.
