Tea & Zen
Design of Baoer Zhongxiu Tea Canister
This is one of the design units of packages of Huoshan Yellow Tea. The origin place of the tea is under Baiyun Nunnery, Huoshan County, Anhui Province, therefore this design is named “Zhong Yin”, which means living in seclusion in a mountain. The design combines “Zen” and “Teaism”, describing Buddhist concept of “tasting Zen in tea”.
In China, Tea is implying letting go, which corresponds to the “letting go” in Zen. This is where the “tasting Zen in tea” comes from. A simple cup of tea actually is full of Buddhist mood and life philosophy. For this reason, we take “sitting in meditation” as design language and use it in the handle of canister cover, making it a distinctive decoration while keeping its function of a cover handle. What’s more, this design interprets the cultural connotation of “tasting Zen in tea” from both vision and structure.
