Nirvana is a place of perfect peace and happiness, like heaven. In Hinduism and Buddhism, nirvana is the highest state of happiness that someone can attain, a state of enlightenment, meaning a person's individual desires and suffering go away. For my Illustration minor assignment, I created a cinemagraphic animation based on the idea of finding happiness within one's self. It is based on a poem 'The Seeking'.

This project was completed within 4 weeks, which included brain storming, thumbnailing, storyboarding and execution. I used this color palette to visually curate an experience that induces endorphins, and tell a story about seeking happiness. Symbolism and surrealism was used as a technique to subtly enhance the discovery of true nirvana.

Each verse of the poem was sketched out, and thumbnailed before starting the storyboard. All illustrations were hand drawn and animated using a Wacom Intous, on Adobe Photoshop. All separate cinemagraphs were later compiled as a video on After Effects.

I sat on the door of my dwelling
Waiting for happiness to find me

I waited and waited
Until someone said
I should look for it inside my house

I searched up every room
under the bed
And behind the silk curtains

And when darkness veiled the sky
I searched in my dreams with a sigh
But i failed

Then i wandered
Around the busy streets of my city,
My eyes searching for an old friend

Tired
 with heavy eyelids
I sat under a tree

And that's when a wise man came to me
What are you looking for?
He asked

Happiness, I answered
Look inside yourself, he said

I have never felt sad ever since.
