Transparent Bondage : A Juneteenth Drawing
Juneteenth was the last day of organized slavery in America and took place in Texas. Since the Union soldiers had never had a foothold in the state, the Emancipation Proclamation was never enforced; that is until 1865 when they were finally able to penetrate into Texas following the conclusion  of the Civil War. From June 16th-19th the word (and law) spread through Texas and slaves were finally freed. Most of them could not pronounce the date correctly so they just called their emancipation day "Juneteenth". In remembrance of this event, there is an art show dedicated to this happening in Chicago this summer and this is my drawing that will be in the show. Enjoy!
