Myanmar Trip 14, Part 2 

Traveling with the Fujifilm GFX 50s medium format mirrorless camera system.

I have now returned from my fourteenth trip to Myanmar. Traveling throughout this country, seeing old friends and finding new ones, wandering familiar territories and discovering new.

On the road with the Fujifilm GFX has been a dream. Comparable in size and weight to a pro Nikon or Canon camera, but with the image quality and dynamic range of medium format and a very high resolution file.

Working in the wee hours of the morning, well before sunrise, to see what I can pull out of the dark of night. Long exposures in odd, mixed light and finding images I would have never tried to attain before. The blacks are black and the colours strange and surreal, just the way I saw them.

In the past, I worked with 6 x17cm panoramic roll film cameras and 4 x 5 inch sheet film cameras. Using big cumbersome tripods to stabilize these even more cumbersome cameras. Having to do long exposures and be critical with focus and depth of field in the hopes of getting one good, sharp image. There was no chance of capturing a fleeting moment with these beasts.

With the Fujifilm GFX 50s, I am able to shoot hand held, use higher shutters speeds and work with shallow depth of field. Capturing moments that fly by with the confidence that the auto focus will be dead sharp, exactly where I expected. All this and being able to switch to a panoramic format or a number of other formats, if I so choose.

My travel kit included the Fujifilm GFX 50s camera body and three Fujinon lenses, the GF 23mm F4, the GF 63mm F2.8 and the GF 110mm F2. A perfect set for just about anything I would want to photograph.
