As a way to showcase Malaysia's distinctive culture of amazing hawker food stalls, I imagined 马来西亚 (Malaysia) written in a type design inspired by the traditional hand-painted signboards seen on old hawker food stalls. In this case, an old Hainan Lor Mee stall’s signboard I saw in Penang that coincidentally has been around since 1957, which was the inspiration for this idea.
