The Great Explorers Brief
How do you engage a new generation of people with these great explorers and their amazing expeditions?
Shackleton’s South Polar continent expedition is one of the greatest examples of failure but it is his response to failure and crisis that makes the expedition truly remarkable. To answer the brief Inspiration was drawn from his diaries to create a narrative website showing his adventure in a visual easy to digest way, but with deeper levels of information if the user wanted to explore further.
The visual style to the narrative website was key as it had to be engaging but also create the correct tone for the subject matter. Somehow bright colours didn’t seem quite right for an adventure primarily consisting of misery, fear and hardship but was exception in the mere fact that no one actually died under Shackleton's command.
To show how the final website would actually interact as the user scrolled through to advance the story as well as click on certain points through out to gain more information on that point. A small section of the story was animated in after effects to show the all the assets working together.
