Super Summer Challenge 2016

A summer reading program for all AGES

The Super Summer Challenge is an annual program at The City Library — a solution to "summer slide" and boredom for kids, teens, and adults. The branding for the 2016 challenge was inspired by classic baseball uniforms and ephemera, tapping into an athletic vibe that connected to the Summer Olympics hosted in Rio de Janeiro that year.

Read・Discover・Make・Explore・Do

During the SSC, patrons could "level up" in each of the five categories by completing specific activities within their tracker, such as reading a book from a new, unexplored genre, attending library events, or even hiking a local nature trail. We created "badges" for each category to highlight the active nature of the challenge. Completed trackers earned patrons various prizes, motivating and challenging them throughout the summer.

These "heroes" were used throughout the materials, highlighting the diverse nature of the challenge — and it's participants. The torchbearer with the prosthetic legs is based on Alan Fonteles Cardoso Oliveira, a Paralympian athlete from Brazil who competed in the Rio de Janeiro games.
