I have been traveling for long as I belong, and can live in confidence. What these travels actually did was to make me face fears, weaknesses and worries about the future, which threatened my aspirational existence as an artist. Called ‘Protectors’, this series offers a playful and colorful method to fight against a situation that contemporary humans cannot avoid as they become more and more indivualistic in the name of liberty.
My sculptures made of kinetic materials or recycled objects that signify temporality invites the viewer to a protected place that makes a stand against certain things.
It works like a charm. It also defaint against being associated with idolatry. It clears a path to reinterpreting guardianship, the original intent of sculptures in many a culture, in the present day.
Monstrous sculptures with spiky forms and multiple eyes, mouths and tails swallow and destroy evil. The warm colors of the spikes in particular reveal the power of these sculptures possess. Vivid colors contrast with forms, pushing us to a dilemma between positive an negative. The monstrous sculptures create a space where evil and fear does not exist; it is an imaginary world of its own.
