A Mobile Toybox Inspired By Queenstown

‘Corgi’ is a toy cart for kids inspired by Queenstown and its residences’ recollections of the former Thye Hong Biscuit and Confectionery Factory. The cart’s main structure is a windowed biscuit tin we obtained from Tanglin Halt, to which we attached a set of casters and a cleaned, discarded dog leash. The tin’s exterior was coated with a combination of baby blue and pale orange paint, which is reminiscent of the housing estates in Queenstown. The padded base of the cart’s interior may be swapped with any cushion of your choice. Old alphabet magnets were attached to the cart to complete the playful look and serve as an additional interactive layer. ‘Corgi’ was named so because of Queenstown’s historical connection to Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. We imagined the cart’s proportions as bearing similarities to the squat body and stumpy feet of a Corgi – the Queen’s preferred breed.

‘Corgi’ was displayed at Naiise and the National Design Centre as part of Celebrating Found Objects – an exhibition featuring 24 upcycled products from BA(Hons) Design Communication Level 2 students (2017).
