Individual Accountability
for Digital Voices 2018
(Game Design)
I contributed to the story development during the early stages of the production and drew the second half of the storyboard.
I did a little bit of the script at the start before I passed it to a different member. I then moved on to work on different stuff such as making icons for the quest items.
*said icons! I made them in Photoshop. They were very fun to make.
Our game has a scene where the player receives a postcard from his grandfather. So I had to make one. I painted the front cover and found a font that looks like handwriting for the grandfather's handwriting. The hardest part was to find a proper font for the front. Nothing worked so I had to settle with what I could.
After that, I moved to painting textures on the 3D models. It was a little bit challenging at first because I knew almost nothing about blender and painting textures. After a few Youtube tutorials and google searches though, I figured how to do it.
With the deadline coming closer, we decided to start building the actual map for the game. With the controller issues (the camera is fixed in one direction)  and limited amount of assets (decoration) in mind I came up with the final map. I discussed it with the others as well. We had a bit of a problem that the map is too small but we don't have enough assets to fill in spaces so we had to settle.

I then went on to building the actual map in Unity. Again, this part was very challenging for me as I know nothing about Unity other than playing with it a few times during weekends.More Youtube tutorials, google searches and  asking help from our leader, I managed to figure it out. It was very fun once you're actually familiarized with the program!
Other than building the map, I made leaves and wood textures for the trees. I made the right ones first but they didn't fit in because they didn't look cartoony at all. So I made new one.

After this, I'll hopefully make a few more assets to decorate the map (bushes and grass) and add another tree model with a different color of leaves to make the map more vibrant.
After writing this and looking through everything I did during the production, I realized that I jumped from one task to another and got to try lots of different things. I learned a lot and realized a lot of things about myself too.

I realized that I enjoy making stories in my head and giving personalities to the characters but hate writing the actual story itself.    I realized that I very much enjoy pixel art. It brought back memories when I used to play around with RPG Maker. I also realized that sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zones in order to learn something entirely new. I was very scared and skeptical to use blender and unity before because I knew nothing about them but once you familiarize yourself with he program, I actually found myself enjoying the work.
