Perfect Disk
The aim of this assignment was to create a perfect disk out of two laminated blocks of walnut. This study explores grain direction and requires great attention to the ever so subtle undulations that occur on the woods surface. The disk was created through the processes of chiseling, hand planing, sanding, and finished with tung oil.
Boat: Bent Lamination Study
The aim of this material study was to create a boat through the bent lmination of the wood veneers. This project is an exploration of the tensile strength of the wood, as well as the long grain connections needed to create the arc necessary to make the vessel float.
Lathe Turning
This study set out to explore the process of lathe turning on two blocks of maple wood which can later fasten into one another.
