THE OMEN OF CHANGE
Mutation is defined as a process of change that occurs when there is a change in environment or situation. Commonly we speak of mutation in a biological sense, using the word to describe the change of structure or genes of a specimen. In my photographic series I mutated the process of taking photos and rather than just take a photo and leave it at that, I aimed to create a surreal photographic artwork destabilizing the norms of photography.
I wanted my final series of work to depict a mutated and morphed reality in which there is no water. What would life become? What would the world look like without our oceans, rivers and dams? What would become of the human race? I wanted my series to comment on our water usage and how we take water for granted, but in reality there is a limited supply of water on Earth. The final series of images represents a mutated style of photography where the final image becomes much more than a photograph, it becomes a conceptual, surreal artwork which comments on an issue faced in our present society.
