'The Duet' is an assignment I completed for an end of semester charette. Our task was to convey/portray how multilingual people switch between languages and how it can impact them.

In this animation, I want to portray what happens to a person when they learn or try to talk a new language and how its effects their personality. I also want to show how two people who don’t speak the same language communicate with one another and the effects of trying to learn a new language in order to converse.

For this, I’ve created a fictional world where everyone talks with cassette and CD players and only ‘sing’ one song. However, with the arrival of someone who speaks another language, how does one communicate? Do they try and learn that language? Does learning a new language change who they are?

This animation also aims to portray and promote multilingualism amongst people and show that even if you speak two languages and often get lost in the two, they seemingly go well together over time.
