Neorealism Film Series Poster/Brochure Project

Italian neorealism became an international force in film immediately after the end of World War II and presented an ideal of film that abandoned the studio system for non-professional actors, documentary photography, non-Hollywood scripts, and a progressive ideology that seemed directly opposed to the cinema Italy had developed under the Fascist regime from 1922 to its fall in 1943. The series examines films by such directors as Roberto Rossellini, Vittorio De Sica, Luchino Visconti, Federico Fellini, and Michelangelo Antonioni.

The poster is 22x33 inches in vertical format which can be cut up and made into a 12 page French-fold brochure.

Featured films: Open City, Paisan, Stromboli by Robert Rossellini. The Bicycle Thief, Two Women by Vittorio De Sica. La Terra Trema, Rocco and His Brothers by Luchino Visconti. La Strada, Nights of Cabiria by Federico Fellini. L'avventura by Michelangelo Antonioni.

The aim of the design is to give the audience a feeling of Post War Italian cinema. During the research, I got some inspirations from the raw filming methodology and the usage of composition in the films. Therefore, my approach is to show the tension and destructiveness of the post-war period through scattered shapes and sharpe angles to create the visuals and the figure-ground relationship.
