Eelana the Mischievous

Eelana, the Mischievous.

No one is certain how old she was or where she came from. No one is even sure if she existed at all.
The old fishermen would tell tales about the serpent maiden and how she would steal their catch of the day. Sailors would drunkenly jest during their leave about finding and marrying the mischievous sea-wench. And mothers would keep their misbehaving children in line by telling them terrifying stories about the Eelana, the witch who was half sea snake, half woman.
This artwork was made for the #MerMay art challenge this year. The color process used for this piece was non-linear. I followed Artgerm's tutorial on adding color to grayscale paintings (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB9Jui9wQNg&t=1s) and tried different color tones and variations until I was satisfied with the result. It was very challenging for me. It all started with the concept, then then blocking out the silhouette of the mermaid, then I moved on to filling out the values before adding the color.
