CENTRALA introduced colour, energy and an element of surprise to the interior of the building that previously served as the weaving and spinning mill of the textile factory “Naum Eitingon and Ska”. A multi-colour mesh structure was interlaced with all storeys of the building. Polychromatic surfaces and wisps of taut tape were spread out in the factory space that is characterised by glass elevations and a pattern of reinforced concrete posts. The tape outlined particular zones, emphasise important points and guide visitors through the Festival Centre. At the same time, this design solution disrupted the aesthetic qualities of the building. The usage of capillary boards allows for interweaving furniture, displays and vertical partitions into the structure. The delicate structure will constitute the element linking particular exhibitions that were presented in every nook and cranny of the building. The intention of CENTRALA was to evoke associations with the contemporary art of urban knitting, folk festivals, and – first and foremost – with the city’s past and the history of the Old Weaving Mill. And so we weaved 2012 year’s exhibition together. concept: May 2012 realization October 2012 Event: 6th International Design Festival in Łódź | 18-28/10/2012 | http://www.lodzdesign.com/ authors CENTRALA: Małgorzata Kuciewicz (exhibition arrangement design) Krzysztof Syruć (spatial instalation design) Simone De Iacobis Kasia Kuźmińska Jelena Markovic Davide Gravino co-opetration: Piotr Zbierajewski, Agnieszka Pudłowska realization: Krzysztof Syruć with the help of many volunteers production: Agnieszka Średniak (Lodz Design Festival Production Manager) Read Less
