Prince '17 Days' | Illustration Project
This project that began in early May was based around the idea of creating an illustration-based poster that would help visualise some of the situations and key references that are mentioned within the 1984 song 17 Days by the late American funk and R&B singer Prince, by the way of using a visual style that is simple in layout, gritty in texture, and partially neon in terms of the colour palette and layer effects.

The content within the poster mainly consists of two cigarettes, the moon, and a cloud full of rain that helps communicate a sense of loneliness and agonising pain that Prince is no doubt suffering, due to the relentless thoughts of his loved one being in the care and affection of somebody else. Therefore, such pain itself is being endured with the assistance of nicotine, and pleasure of watching darker and depressing weather take over, as a form of emotional and physical comfort.

The display mockup for the final outcome places the design itself into a black frame that is then rested up against a wall that shares a similar colour to the dominant colour of the finished poster. This helps ensure that both elements blend together in a calm yet formal manner that isn’t too distracting, or make one seem out of place from the other.
