Rometti 5:1 Light
An entry in the 2017 international Rometti competition. The 5:1 Light draws from both the Arno river and the Ponte Vecchio. The light is composed of six main components; a light assembly, a metal frame and four identical ceramic shades. This modular design makes the 5:1 Light ideal for mass production, and accommodates for the individual replacement of components, if ever necessary. The curved pattern found in each shade is a 5:1 ratio, mirroring the ratio found in the arches of the Ponte Vecchio. Alternating these curves imitates the flow found in the current of the Arno river, constantly passing below the arches of the Ponte Vecchio. The front and back of each shade is finished in gloss white, while color can be found above and below the gaps in each shade, paying tribute to the colorful life of the Ponte Vecchio and Rometti. From across a room, the colors are unnoticeable, but the closer one gets, the more evident the colors become, making this piece just as interesting and interactive in daylight. The metal frame that holds the shades is the silhouette of the bridge keystone, the final piece that completes each arch of the bridge. The 5:1 Light transforms any room it is placed in and pays homage to the Arno river and the Ponte Vecchio.
