Matt Baker is an Artist & Illustrator based in the Clarence Valley region of NSW Australia. He is represented by Plum Pudding Illustration Agency.
An award winning artist with a background in traditional animation and illustration, Matt’s art practice incorporates various traditional and digital painting and drawing techniques to explore the mystery, struggle and beauty of existence, adhering to the premise that there is value in creating art for the purpose of uplifting the viewer, a reminder that there is still hope and beauty to be found on this earth.
As Auguste Renoir once said, ‘There are too many unpleasant things in life as it is without creating still more of them.’
Matt began his career working at DisneyToon Studios Sydney and has been freelance illustrating since 2006.
The Big Bible Challenge that Matt illustrated with fellow artist Daryl Peninton was awarded Children’s Book of the Year at Christian Resources Together 2012.
His artwork 'The Gloriously Wounded' won both the Portraiture and People's Choice sections in the 2017 Newcastle Art Prize.
