I had the opportunity to design the logo mark and the word mark, as well as UX and UI prototypes for the website which makes the foundation of the Block Zero brand.
Project: Logo and UI Design
Creative Solution: I approached the design process of the logo and UI prototypes for the website in iteration of three steps: researching, sketching, and refining. The goal was to create a final result that communicates to a specific audience, but also is competitive in the market.
I started this project, not only with a desire to create an outstanding final result, but also to have a final product that is on the same page as the client and communicates with its audience. To make sure I understood the business, I researched references focusing on attributes to help me understand the ‘soul’ of the industry.
After a process of filtering dozens of images and information, five keywords stood out that better explain the business. The keywords are computer, mirror, networking, dimension, and galaxy.
Sketching is the process where ideas start to take form. I usually start the process by drawing rough sketches of different concepts on paper. I choose those that are relevant to the business, and from this group I choose the top five. The second stage of the sketching process is exploring those five ideas by drawing iterations that lead me to the final result.
Once the logo has gotten its final form, I started exploring color combinations. To express the depth of the world of computing and the innovation of the technology, I chose the purple and the sky blue. The two colors mix well together by creating a harmonious gradient which gives energy and life to the logo.
At the end I see a product that is appealing, competitive, and represents the attributes of the business, but also represents a concept which makes the logo easy to remember. The concept of the Block Zero logo is; a center, which is the point zero, is connected to other devices. A network of data flow is created where the point zero helps other devices communicate with each other. Notice how all the keywords, which are computer, mirror, networking, dimension, and solar system or galaxy, are an inspiration of the Block Zero logo mark concept.
A part of the design process was the website of Block Zero. The UI has a clear and minimal design with a purpose of bringing a wonderful experience to users. Elements of the logo are implemented in the UI, and one of them is the curve used through the website which creates consistency and makes it a recognizable part of the brand of Block Zero.
