DIB Hotel is an app that allows users to book a hotel room by setting their prices.
Some research suggests that the share of booked rooms is as low as 60%, which means that 40% of all hotel rooms remain unbooked. However, hotels don’t want to lower their prices since it would hurt their brand, but they are willing to negotiate if it would mean that they would profit from using unbooked rooms.
This is how the founders of this app came up with the idea of creating a DIB Hotel. It was founded in 2015 in Stockholm, Sweden.
DIB Hotel app allows its users to set prices to book a hotel room. The users set hotel preferences (city, dates, rooms, and rating) and send a bid. The bid is automatically sent to all hotels that match the user’s preferences, and the first hotel that accepts the user’s proposal wins that user. This way, only users can see the hotel brand, and it remains protected.
The goal of the project is to simplify the booking process for booking unsold hotel rooms both for customers and hotels. Extensive user research and testing were done to make the booking process as intuitive as possible.
Techniques such as wireframing and paper prototypes were implemented and tested within the company.
The focus of the landing page is its filter bar. The background is a simple mood image whose purpose is to illustrate but not to be too destructive for the user. The approach here was the "mobile-first".
The entire visual language was created from scratch. The client had a stylish logo, so he wanted the whole style based on that logo and its colors. This sheet shows core icons, illustrations and color plate that was developed from that logo.
