Cinderella: Shapes & Patterns - Video Game

Cinderella: Shapes & Patterns was a game developed by Fair Play Labs for Disney Corporation for it’s line of princesses games and products. This game was part of it’s edutainment line, aimed at small girls and it was created for mobile devices specially Apple iPhone and iPad lines in 2013.

In the game, Cinderella is creating the perfect dress for a party using the help of her mice. In the first part of the game the player had to match shapes, colors and patterns to progress in the game.
The second portion was about accessorizing and painting the actual dress. This part was the reward for the first part and it was mainly a dress up game where the players could create an original dress for Cinderella.
The game UI and design had to be quite simple for the audience and capable of sustaining two distinct gameplay areas. Also we had to design the elements to give them a somehow reminiscent look of the Cinderella movie and also a “seamstress” look. That is why most of the UI elements have a fabrics texture and metal “accessory” elements.
One of the key selling points of the game was the dress creation system. Based on screen shots from the original movie and some promotional images provided by Disney, the art department created 16 different base dresses, a wide variety of accessories, 5 different patterns and 12 different colors. All those elements had to be combined in any way by the user using a limited amount of space in the phone due the space limitations of mobile games of the time.
