Social networking has become part of our everyday lives, and people feel the need to stay connected.
Individuals value their online identity and engage in self-presentation. With emerging technologies and trends, the way identities online are constructed and presented will continue to shift. To explore "what-ifs" and projected scenarios, critical and speculative design is an approach used to speculate about potential implications of technology and their relationship with humans as users.

Speculative design is a design approach that has potential to explore many fields, one of which may be the future of social media and its impact on online identity. This poster looks at current and emerging factors contributing to online identity formation and possible future implications.

People present themselves differently to different groups of people, as well as when they are alone. This reveals multiple aspects and facets of their overall identities. This microsite examines the concept of Erving Goffman's theory of self-presentation, how it has evolved with the use of the internet and social media, and potential of study in the context of Singapore millennials.
