365 Days Self-Portrait Project (9/1/2006. - 8/31/2007)

From September 1, 2006 to August 31, 2007, I completed the 365 Days photo project, taking a self-portrait a day for a year. (I turned 31 roughly 6 weeks into the project.) These shots are taken with a Sony Cybershot or a Nikon D50.

The current set on Flickr is not the original set I had them in--during the course of the project, the original set actually received thousands of views and hundreds of favorites, none of which you can see since I had made the set private and actually deleted the set. Quite a number of the photos had been in Explore. I was very active on Flickr during this time. However, life changed drastically and couldn't maintain that degree of activity here. I get sad even thinking about it, because I had such found life and inspiration in this, while also finding a niche for myself in understanding a different artistic process than had been possible before internet art-sharing.

I had been shooting with Cybershot, and began photo-sharing on Flickr at basically the same time as I began this project. I had been blogging at my old blog, JillWrites.com, and making a number of blogger friends who were already on Flickr.

I began experimenting with photography on a daily basis as supplemental content to my writing, which I considered my first and primary artistic endeavor. By February I had commandeered my mother's Nikon D50, the first DSLR I worked with, and with which many of these shots are taken.

Below is a screenshot of the Flickr album.
I have included a few photos from the set here. (Currently, to copy each of the 365 photos and accompanying titles and descriptions is beyond the scope of what I can archive. Additionally, the medium that is Social Media Art is best understood in its original context within the social media internet.) To see more, please visit the album on Flickr.
Day 48: I don't know who you are or where you've come from, but from now on you'll do as I say, okay?
Sorry, boys. I just couldn't do the Slave Leia costume today.
a ghost of me

Day 74/365. Monday, November 13, 2006. On rainy days, everything seems out of focus.
Shot on: Sony DSC-V1. 2006.
Day 189/365. And the award for most intriguing use of a paint roller goes to... Awesome. I do a lot of public bathroom photography, but this might have to be my new favorite. I don't usually pull the camera out inside the stall.
193/365 The kind of day I'm having -- it's apparently still better than being inside the brain of Billy Joel.

Day 193/365: Monday, March 12, 2007. I was going to pick a Billy Joel tune to go along with the shot, considering that's the sheet music we have out there. But then I did a quick review of his oeuvre and realized that any song that seems remotely related to the feeling of this shot pretty much makes a person want to lock herself in a closet and never speak to another human being again. REALLY!

Poor guy. (Well, actually, he's rich.) But have you listened to his down-tempo stuff? REALLY LISTENED? No thanks, dude. I just have the flu or something. Not utter disillusionment with human relations dressed up with a tiny bow.
Day 213/365: Sunday, April 1, 2007.
