ABC Nightline took on a new look and logo this year. The refreshed show graphics are more modern; cleaner and streamlined. The new graphic treatment shows the beauty of late night New York. Updating the Rejoins and Show Open involved my shooting and acquiring iconic New York City time lapse shots that would complement the new logo design. Since the show runs year-round we need imagery that reflects four seasons, therefore I tend to shoot footage throughout the year.

In creating these motion graphics, I often shoot scenes with my iPhone when walking around New York at night, additionally, we purchase unique city stock shots. I created the Logo’s glowing blue and gold animated texture in After Effects with Optical Flares. Using 3D space in After Effects, I created a move that reveals the glowing logo over the New York beauty scenes with a simple push.

The shows new sound was created by composers Matthew Kajcienski and Adam Schoenberg who said, “The new theme’s hip foundation is highlighted with short harmonic and melodic hooks throughout inspired by the new graphics.  Also, to note is the opening signature. The combination of sound design elements (uniquely created from scratch for the show) and three distinct pitches highlights a more contemporary approach, capturing the mood for the broadcast.”
