Sloum is a musical project born out of the idea to create a score for a written story. Musician Brian Evans approached me to create a diptych of prints that would be released alongside the album, furthering this cross-media collaboration.

The story “A Prelude to Monsters” is a contemporary apocalyptic narrative that beings with the sun completely burning out. The ambient music of Sloum swells and fades along with the writing, moving through both lighter and heavier moods. The theme of light vs. dark greatly influenced the print composition; it flows and changes like the music, while sticking to a desaturated yet high contrast color palette. The circle and counter forms in each print balance each other and play on the idea of only noticing something’s presence after it’s gone.
