This 2019 calendar design was inspired by Vietnamse Folklore about Demon, through the graphic illustrations i hope to bring the "people" culture of Vietnam to other countries, spread out its beauty along with interesting stories hidden in every each one. And 2019 is Year of The Pig so i choose the pig figure to be the main character in the calendar.
Đầu Trâu ( Bullhead ) is one of the Demon King's loyal henchman. He in charge of torturing damned souls who sinned, with a lot of terrible punishments across Seven Hell Floors.
Mặt Ngựa ( Horseface ) is another henchman that in charge of torturing . Along with Đầu Trâu ( Bullhead ) , they make a horrible team that any sinned souls would scream out when mentioned.
Unlike the vampire in Western culture, Ma Cà Rồng ( or Vietnamese Folklore Vampire ) has a very unique description : They have red forehead with their pinky toes put into their noses and their hands holding their ears when flying. They love to suck blood from pregnant womans. If you catch a glimpse of unusual lights at night, it a sign that a vampire is coming.
Chó đội nón mê ( Demon Dog with straw hat ) is a demon in folklore that told by old wise mans through many generations. They usually being describe as a Vietnamese black dog with pink - red tail and nose, walking on two legs when holding a wand with a straw hat on the head. They can turn into human form when the full moon comes.
Ma Trơi ( Ghostly Fireball ) is actually a science phenomenon that can be explained. But back then when physics and chemistry still not fully developed, the people believe this is a sign of demon. They come with a glowing blue fiery form, floating all sudden through the windflow. Old folklore believed that they are the soul of fallen heroes who die in war.
Thầy pháp ( Witch Doctor ) is our super hero when it comes to banish those demons . They went from village to village to help people if they get into trouble with spiritual problems. But there are also fake Witch Doctor who just want to make money from those poor villagers.
