The colossal spider

To develop a sustainable kind of tourism and, at the same time, to experiment innovative housing typologies: these are the two goals of a research focused on discovering touristic opportunities of ancient fishing structures: the Trabocchi. The project takes place along the San Vito Chietino coast in Abruzzo.
The crumbling historical Trabocco has been re-designed for a low-impact use, hypothesizing the restoration of a craftsmanship work for creating a new local economy.

The temporary cell, instead of the ruined fishing cabin, combines a low cost minimal house with the immersive experience in the landscape and local tradition: the hypothetical user has been defined as “traveler without baggage”.  The private use of the accomodation is mediated by the public use of the pier: the Trabocco isn’t only a matter of tourism but overall a common good.
