This brief requested the design of 3 seperate album covers, each incorporating elements of both photography and design. Covers had to be designed using original photography and design elements. The option was given to choose any existing album of our liking and redesign the cover based on a new concept, grounded in photography, design, or both.
I approached the brief by sketching out ideas for each album cover, and by brainstorming a variety of concepts to make each cover eye-catching and visually appealing.
The final album covers each explored a range of photographic techniques, design styles, and combinations between the two. Each cover was designed with a unique core idea, and aims to demonstrate a wide variety of technical abilities.
For the first two album covers, a behind-the-scenes timelapse was recorded to show the creation process of the album cover from scratch.
The redesigned cover for Tycho's album "Awake" features 6 individual texture photographs - one for the wooden background, and 5 seperate textures for the rainbow coloured diamond on the front of the cover. The aim was to create an ambient and natural feeling, much like the one evoked when listening to the tracks on the album.
In the redesign of Missy Elliott's album 'Under Construction' I decided to take the title in a more literal sense and explore a complex urban composition, with elements of architecture, street culture, graffiti, and more.
This cover redesign was a more simple approach compared to the previous two, as it aimed to recreate the original cover for the album with a more photorealistic style. As all images used had to be fully original, I was unable to use Christina Aguilera, but instead took a portrait photograph of one of my friends. The final cover uses over 60+ different source images.
