Septa Rebrand - App and Map Design

SEPTA Rebrand
This was a rebrand, app and map redesign for Septa, Philadelphia's transportation system. Septa's current brand identity is dated and inconsistent, and the app is not quite intuitive. Furthermore, there are too many means of payment: three different cards and a set of coins that separately pay for the bus, train and subway. This update was meant to feel modern, almost futuristic, and make both the app and ride payment system more user friendly.
For Comparison:
Below is the current brand, app and map design for Septa.
The App
While difficult to visualize here, the current app makes riders choose which transportation system they are going to use before they can search for a route, a process that can be difficult for new and unfamiliar riders. Also, the app is unable to determine the closest stop to the user based on their location; the user must know to which station they are closest. The app I designed aggregates all of Septa's transportation systems and compiles the data to provide the best route based on the user's current or inputted location.
The Payment Method
Septa's current payment method includes all of the cards seen below, as well as a token system for the subway. The card designs vary month to month and do not seem to adhere to a specific style guide. The "Freedom Card" I designed is one card that is meant to pay for every type of transportation service that Septa offers. Riders can add more money to their card on the app or at a kiosk at Septa stations.
