Cultural Lens is an app idea from students at MIT. I used the idea for their app to practice mobile application design and to learn how to use Adobe XD.
First, using Adobe Illustrator, I created a simple Logo that played on a camera lens, which I could then use in the app.
Next, using Adobe XD, I started to build what the Cultural Lens app might look like using a black and white wireframe.
As I added more screens, played with the prototyping navigation, and tried to imagine what I wanted the app to look like more clearly, I ended up altering the design of the app.
I decided to use low opacity white circles to loosely mimic lens flares in the background instead of the stationary circle in the background. I thought this would make the app feel less stiff.
After I created a good number of screens and played with the interaction of those screens, I went back and added color to my design.
I chose a blue-green gradient and decided to use orange as my accent color. I wanted the tone of the app to be calming and I thought this color combination would produce that effect.
Below are a few example artboards showing my idea for this app.
As this was just practice, I didn't design the full app or make the navigation perfect, but you can take a closer look at the design and interact with the prototype below.
