日本のアートやデザイン文化を紹介するオンラインマガジン「Japan Objects」。tegusuでは、サービスにおけるVI(ロゴマーク・カラー・使用フォント規定）等の設計を担当しました。

2016年の1月、私たちはJapan Objectsチームの主催・Dicconからシンボルデザインの依頼を受けました。日本のデザインやアートを西洋の人たちにも知ってもらうためのサービスであること、また日本の「紋」をモチーフとしたロゴでサービスを印象づけたいことなど、彼らのビジョンはとても明確でした。

“Japan Objects” is an online magazine that introduces the culture of art and design in Japan. tegusu worked on the VI (the logomark, colors, font rules, etc.) of this service.

In January 2016, we got a request for a symbol design from Diccon, which organizes the Japan Objects team. We found out that their vision was very clear: Japan Objects is a service for letting westerners know about Japanese design and art. They also wanted to have a logo with a motif of a Japanese “mon (crest)” to let people have a good idea of what their service is about.

彼らの活動はスモールスタートアップでしたが、「日本のアートやデザインを世界へと発信したい」という意気込みに共感と期待を込め、私たちはVIを提供することにしました。そしてその期待以上に、彼らは、日本人とは違う感覚で切り取られた、鮮烈で蠱惑的な記事を提供し続けており、すでに多くのファンを獲得しています。

They started as a small start-up. We felt related to their eagerness to introduce Japanese art and design to the world, and also felt their great potential, so we happily decided to work with them on their VI. Now, it is amazing to see how they keep on providing vivid and fascinating articles written from a point of view which is different from that of ordinary Japanese people, and how they already got so many fans.

シンボルロゴは「紋」をモチーフとしながらも、サービスの頭文字であるJとOのアルファベットを幾何学的に組み合わせ、日本的な印象と西洋的な印象を共存させています。またフォントはAvenirをベースに、あらゆる環境下で表示再現できるよう、細部を簡略化し調整しています。

While the symbol logo has a motif of “mon,” it has the letters J and O: the initials of Japan Objects, combined geometrically within. In this design, you can see the impression of Japan and the West coexisting. The font is created based on the Avenir typeface with a detailed simplification and adjustment, so it can easily be reused in any form of media.
